Borgata's Clean Air

In an effort to best accommodate their customers — smokers and non-smokers — the Borgata has submitted plans to the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA) that will make the resort the first 100% smoke-free casino in Atlantic City. To accommodate smoking guests, Borgata will offer several outdoor lounges that will be designated smoking areas. These outdoor spaces will offer guests a comfortable, climate-controlled environment. Subject to NJ DCA approval, the plans will take effect in compliance with the Atlantic City smoke free ordinance.
Besides being fair for customers, it is the best solution for Borgata's employees. When the casinos went for a partial ban, the smoke was concentrated in a smaller gaming space, making the pollution even worse in those areas.

Sunshine State Applicants

ScottEvansWEB.jpg
The AC Convention Center is hosting a two-day job fair for the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla., with day two happening as I post this blog. The job fair brought out thousands of dealer applicants, hoping to move down to the Sunshine State. There are 3,650 new dealers positions for the 74 new tables games at the casino in Hollywood. Dealers in blackjack, baccarat and Pai Gow are expected to begin work in mid-May, with card play beginning at the casino in June.
An additional 350 openings include positions for floor supervisors, pit managers, casino shift managers, cage managers, casino credit managers, casino credit administrators and casino credit clerks.
“We chose to begin our employment search in Atlantic City due to the higher than average unemployment rate and the turnout and quality of applicants have exceeded our expectations,” said Dawn Neils, a corporate representative from Seminole Hard Rock Casino. (She is pictured with AC Mayor Scott Evans).
“Day one of the job fair brought out thousands and we expect to have another great day today.”
Day two of the job fair began at 8:30am this morning and is scheduled to last until the last person who wants one has completed the application process. For more information or to apply online, visit their Web site.

On the Waterfront

WEBHarrahWaterfront.jpgHarrah’s will have the official grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Waterfront Tower Thursday, March 6 at 10am. After hearing about the delay in construction of Pinnacle’s casino at the Sands site because of the economic downturn, it's good to know that AC's progress as a destination resort continues.

Harrah’s Waterfront Tower marks the final phase of a $550 million expansion. Its centerpiece is a 960-room, 44-story tower, which will be the tallest structure in Atlantic City. Governor Corzine will be among the state and local officials on hand. The new expansion also includes The Pool entertainment complex that doubles as a nightclub three days a week; the newly opened “Taste of the Shore” food complex; the Red Door Spa and the Waterfront Buffet, which opened last April.
