With the first real signs of spring, area casinos have revealed a bunch of new concerts on tap for the spring and summer. Besides the Clapton concert noted below in another blog, new shows at the Borgata include a bunch of comics: Chris Rock on May 16–17; D.L. Hughley (April 4); David Atell (May 25); John Pinette (May 24) and added shows for Kathy Griffin (May 30–31). Tickets go on sale for Hughley, Attel and Pinette on March 8. They join the already sold out James Taylor, Jackson Browne, and Alison Krauss-Robert Plant shows. Go here for more info.
At the House of Blues, newly posted headliners include T-Pain on April 10 (on sale 3/8); The Wallflowers, April 26 (on sale 3/8); Patti LaBelle, May 24; Gretchen Wilson, July 5 (pictured; on sale 3/5) and Weird Al Yankovic, July 9 (on sale 3/22). Go to the ticketmaster site.
Area casinos are starting to fill in their entertainment schedule for the spring and beyond. For the first year since casinos began operation in Atlantic City, the revenues were down in the year that just ended, 5.7 percent. Don’t feel sorry for the casinos, though; their total revenue was still $4.92 billion.
I bring up the finances because a lot of the entertainers added to the AC schedule recently are not the superstar names we’ve come to expect. There is obviously some belt-tightening going on, even at the jewel in Atlantic City’s crown, Borgata. The Borgata has added a lot more comedians to their slate of entertainers. It’s a talented bunch including Wanda Sykes, Lewis Black, George Carlin and just added, this week, Kathy Griffin (May 31), but comedians are still going to cost less than bands. At some of the other casinos, especially the ones that still cater to Boomers and seniors, newly added headliners include Pat Cooper, Air Supply (Trump Marina); Mickey Rooney, Gary Puckett, Sheena Easton, America, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis (Resorts); Ricci Martin, The Shirelles, Sinbad, Gino Vannelli, Debbie Reynolds (Hilton); Deborah Gibson, Wayne Newton, Tom Jones (Harrah’s); Jackie Mason (Trop), and Engelbert, Kenny Rogers (Trump Plaza). The House of Blues did just add a superb country artist, Gary Allan (May 9, pictured above), but he is still not in the Trace, Alan or Tim echelon (except in pure talent). These shows are affordable, that’s the good news. For ticket info, visit the Tickemaster site and Borgata site
The R. Kelly, Keyshia Cole concert scheduled for this Saturday at Boardwalk Hall has been canceled. Refunds are available at point of purchase.
There is some serious funny business going on at the Borgata. The casino is going for laughter this spring, adding Wanda Sykes (March 22), George Carlin (April 5), Joy Behar (April 12), Tracy Morgan (May 3) and Bob Saget (June 21) to their line-up. This comes on the heels of a comedy heavy line-up already in place, including Lisa Lampanelli for New Year’s Eve, an added third concert by Jim Norton (Jan. 18–20), and Dennis Miller Feb. 1. You can order tickets here.
The Keith Urban-Carrie Underwood tour has announced their initial dates. While we knew A.C. was a stop, we now know that the duo will be showcased at Boardwalk Hall, sponsored by Trump Entertainment, on February 15, 2008, 7:30pm. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10am via Ticketmaster. Ticket prices are $45, $65, $95 and $125. It's too bad the name is taken, or they could have called this the U2 Tour (Urban & Underwood).
This is a slow time of the year for concert announcements, but Borgata did add Diana Ross to their line-up, coming January 13. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, Dec. 8 on the Borgata Web site.
Elvis Costello is coming to the House of Blues with his band The Imposters on Dec. 31. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Wed. Nov. 14). Other new concerts announced include Kid Rock, Jan. 5, Borgata; Matchbox Twenty w/Alanis Morissette, Feb. 15 at Borgata, and G. Love & Special Sauce Dec. 30 at Borgata. All of those shows go on sale this Saturday (Nov. 17). Celine Dion isn’t coming to Boardwalk Hall until Sept. 20, 2008, but tickets go on sale this Mon. (Nov. 19). Caesars is presenting the show.
Country music is coming to AC in a big way in the coming year. Adding to the already announced Trace Adkins show at Trump Taj Mahal Jan. 26, is the news released Nov. 9 that Martina McBride is headed to town on March 1 at Caesars. Trisha Yearwood will also be in town March 1 at the Hilton. Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 16. Gee, they have to make us choose between Martina and Trisha? Today comes the news that the new super tour featuring Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood has announced cities scheduled so far, including a listing for Atlantic City. The "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride Tour," which combines the names of the Grammy-winners' latest albums, is set to launch Jan. 31. When the AC date is announced we’ll pass it along. Go here for the announcement.

Well we know who's the breadwinner in the Cyrus family these days. The daughter of Billy “Achy-Breaky Heart” Cyrus, and the star of the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, is leaving the Cheetah Girls in the dust. Tickets for Miley Cyrus' concert tour, kicking off later this month, are selling out in minutes at many venues. Just to check, I tried ordering tickets for her Boardwalk Hall concert on-line and was told I couldn’t be helped.
Cyrus' Memphis show filled 12,000 seats in eight minutes; a ticket for the Charlotte, N,C. show went for $2,565. The top price for tickets is $65 but the average resale is $214, besting Timberlake, Beyoncé and The Police.
Mandy Moore , co-headlining with Paula Cole, has been added to the lineup at the Borgata for a concert in the Music Box Friday, Sept. 14 at 9pm. Tickets are $35 and go on sale this Saturday at the B's ticket Website.
Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony are scheduled to open their joint tour on Sept. 29 in Atlantic City, at the Trump Taj Mahal. This is quite an honor for AC considering that, despite her successful albums, J-Lo has never been on tour.
Tickets for Jerry Seinfeld Sept. 8 at Resorts go on sale Saturday, Aug. 4 at 10am. He’ll be doing the same gig as last year, with an 8pm show at the Hilton, followed by an 11pm show at Resorts. Other shows just announced by Resorts are Debbie Reynolds (Aug. 27–31); the Trammps (Sept. 9–13) and the Dovells (Sept. 16–20). Hilton’s new concert announcements are a Jerry Blavat Disco Dance Party (Aug. 31); Pink Lloyd Laser Show (Sept. 2); and Lou Graham (Sept. 29). Over at the Taj, Liza Minnelli will headline on Sept. 1.
Area casinos have unfurled a brand new bunch of shows, and rescheduled Morrissey. He had to cancel July 5 due to throat problems, but is now scheduled for July 24 at the Borgata.
As for new shows, Caesars has added the Steve Miller Band (Sept. 2) Jon Stewart (Oct. 6) and Sheryl Crow (Oct. 19-20). Tickets go on sale tomorrow, July 12 for Miller; Friday, July 13 for Crow and Stewart.
Borgata just added Martin Short (Aug. 17), Stevie Nicks (Aug. 24) and Stephen Lynch (Aug. 31). Tickets are on sale this Monday, July 16 for Short and Nicks, Saturday, July 14 for Lynch.
The House of Blues announced Keyshia Cole (Aug. 18), Bobby Valentino & Omarion (Aug. 24) and the Last Comic Standing finalists (Nov. 16) Tickets go on sale this Sat. July 14 for the HOB shows.
Fans of real country music should be bummed out by the news that the Last Of The Breed show, starring Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price and originally scheduled for Aug. 31 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City has been canceled due to conflicts with tour routing. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.
The rush of additional concert announcements for AC has slowed down during the July 4th holiday week, but the Borgata did announce that the Beastie Boys are coming to the B Aug. 2. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, July 7 on their Web site (which at the moment I'm writing this, does not have the concert posted).
Fans of Legends in Concert, currently showing at Resorts Atlantic City, will be happy to know that the show is not leaving town after its final Resorts show June 30. The show is moving down the Boardwalk to Resorts’ sister casino, the Hilton, on Monday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 25. Tickets are available here. Pictured is Lewis Lipinsky, who did a killer impression of Jerry Lee Lewis last summer.
After I gave Bruce Willis his props in a recent blog for acknowledging his South Jersey roots, I found out he is coming to perform in A.C. The Bruce Willis Blues Band is slated to open for Joe Walsh at the Borgata Event Center on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 8pm. Willis, of course will be packing a harmonica—not as gun—when he comes to town. Tickets are now on sale on the Borgata site
Rascal Flatts, the top vocal group in country music at the moment, has announced a tour stop at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The boys are coming Thursday, Aug. 23. The show time, and when tickets go on sale has not yet been announced. Other recent additions to the AC concert schedule are Chris Issak Aug. 2 at the House of Blues and also at the Blues, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic on Sept. 20. Tickets for the latter go on sale this Wednesday, June 20.
We knew she was coming to town, but the date has finally been announced for Beyonce’s appearance at the Trump Taj Mahal. She arrives Saturday, August 11 for a show in the Mark G. Etess Arena. Tickets range from $96.25 to $126.95. An internet pre-sale for fan club members begins this Friday, June 15 at noon with the sale to the general public scheduled for Saturday, June 16, beginning at 10am from Ticketmaster.
Here are the latest additions to the AC entertainment schedule.
Jersey’s own Joe Piscopo has been announced for 12 dates at Resorts in July beginning July 4–6. At the Borgata, comic Artie Lange performs at the Music Box on Friday, July 13. Chris Cornell arrives Friday, July 27; The Black Crowes perform Sunday, Aug. 12 at the Event Center (on sale 6/16), and the Saw Doctors headline that same day at the Music Box. Roseanne Barr will bring her occasionally blue rumor to the House of Blues Saturday, Oct. 6.

Borgata has added more summer concerts including 311 on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the Event Center; ZZ Top on Monday, July 23 in the Event Center and Frankie Valli Friday, Aug. 24 to Sunday, Aug. 26 in the Music Box. Tickets go on sale on the Borgata Web site this Saturday, June 9. Pre-sale and VIP packages are available on the ZZ Top Web site this Thursday, June 7.
If you’re a fan of the big red comedy machine, a.k.a. Carrot Top, here’s good news. He will be coming to Atlantic City to perform Saturday, Aug. 11 at Trump Marina. Tickets are $34.70 and $46.10 plus tax and fee, and go on sale this Saturday, June 9, at noon via Ticketmaster.
At the Borgata, the WIP radio connection continues. Besides WIP sports radio hosts Howard Eskin and Anthony Cataldi doing live remotes from the casino, regular contributors Joe Conklin and overnight host Big Daddy Graham (pictured at right) have been booked into the Music Box. The show is titled “Two Funny Philly Guys” and takes place Sunday, July 1 at 9pm. Tickets are $20, on sale now on the Borgata Website.
Borgata just added Interpol to their schedule Saturday, July 20 at 9pm. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, June 2 at 10am. Over at the House of Blues The Aggrolites are penciled in for Thursday, July 26 and Reggaeton star Calle 13 performs Thursday, July 12. Those shows also go on sale this Saturday at 10am.

Blige (July 28); The Moody Blues (Aug. 10); Lewis Black (Aug. 10). Staind goes on sale this Friday, May 25; the rest are on sale Saturday, May 26.

Legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist Bo Diddley has been hospitalized following a stroke suffered on Sunday May 13. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member was taken to the emergency room at Creighton University Medical Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Just when you thought the casino summer concert announcements had hit their peak, think again. Just as fast as tickets recently went on sale for Jimmy Buffet's Atlantic City debut (which pretty much sold out in like five seconds), and Bob Dylan's folks announced he'll be kicking off his summer tour here in June, and Squeeze, Ne-Yo and Tool shows were finalized for the coming months — here comes another announcement, which fans of pop-blues-rock sensation John Mayer will surely appreciate.

Bob Dylan's record company site reports that the 66-year-old (on May 24th) troubadour will return to the Borgata to kick-off his U.S. 2007 summer tour. He'll be in Atlantic City two nights - June 22 & 23 - and tickets go on sale through the Borgata Web site on May 5. A May 1 pre-sale is available via the Dylan site. Other city's scheduled on the tour include Herhsey, Pa.; Uncasville, Conn.; and Paso Robles, Calif.
Dylan's latest album, Modern Times, released last August on Columbia Records, is among the best of his 46-year recording career. It hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, marking the first time that a Dylan album hit the top spot since his 1976 release, Desire.

Things are beginning to heat up for the summer music line-up in Atlantic City. Recently announced casino concerts include the return of favorites like Earth, Wind and Fire (Borgata, June 1 & 2), the Spinners (Hilton, May 11 & 12) and Vince Neil (House of Blues, Aug. 31 w/ Quiet Riot and Slaughter). Look out for Tool to hit Boardwalk Hall on June 9, UK pop-rock legends Squeeze to play Borgata, Aug. 4 and Beyonce to turn up somewhere that same month. The White Stripes -- who's new album Icky Thump - sounds like it's going to be great (it's due out in June) may also be coming to town not too long after the summer's over. For a weekly update of announced shows at all of the casinos in town, check here.

The pop/rap crossover foursome will rack up even more frequent flyer miles with a stop at The Borgata September 1st. This show will also act as a reunion when the Black Eyed Peas pair up yet again with the super sexy Pussycat Dolls, who are opening the show. The Peas are currently underway in their exotic mid-to-late July calendar that includes dates in Japan, China, Russia and India. They are continuing to back their latest album, Monkey Business, which landed in stores last summer and debuted at #2 on The Billboard 200 chart. The set helped the group snag Grammy nominations in 4 categories: Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal ("Don't Lie"), Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals ("Gone Going"), Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group ("Don't Phunk with My Heart") and Best Rap Song ("Don't Phunk with My Heart").
